Hungarian Rhapsody- Part 7

Cutting the project open...

                                                     ...and removing the resist.

                                                Continuing the felting process...

                                               ...by turning the tote inside-out...

...and working it in this orientation for awhile.

                                                     The finished tote (back)...

                                                               ...and front.

                                             Stuffed with plastic during blocking...

...and drying in our hotel room in Györ.

Next time: a visit to our instructor's art-filled home!

Hungarian Rhapsody- Part 6

Placing sections of woven cords on the resist surface...

...and filling in the 'naked areas'...

                                                    ...with layers of hairy wool.

Flipping the project to side two...

                                                     ...lifting off the resist...

...and reinforcing the perimeter of the woven pieces...

                                                       ...with additional wool.

A few of my talented and beautiful classmates...

                                                             ...Diane, Violet...

                                                                   ...Alice...

                                                      ...and Sue, hard at work.

Placing polka dot embellishments on the 'inside' of side two...

                                                  ...and spirals on the outside...

                                                   ...to make the bag reversible.

Folding the overhanging wool fibers around the resist edges...

                                              ...and starting the felting process.

Next time: the resist is removed.

Hungarian Rhapsody- Part 5

Making samples...

                                                    ...of felt cords and strips...

                                                     ...and assembling them...

                                                        ...into a woven 'insert'.

                                                     Mid-way through felting...

                                                ...and the completed sample

                                                    Making a small felt bag...

...using leftover sample scraps as embellishments.

The pre-felt additions are very nearly 'gobbled up'...

...by the hairy base wool.

                                                           When fully felted...

...the bag is pinched into a 'lunch sack' shape for fun.

Our workshop was held in a festive community space...

...in the lovely town of Györ...

...which boasts charming vintage shop signs...

...reflecting the service or items for sale.

Next time: a tote with asymmetrical straps!

"Two-Faced" Cracked Earth Tote- Part 8

The finished tote...

                                                      ...with leather straps.

                                                            The bag interior.

During the 'freeing' of the resist...

...the felt could have been trimmed to make smaller 'scales'...

...revealing more of the dark, background wool.

                                                           On the grid side...

...the yarn inclusions could have been made more visible...

...if the scales had been trimmed a bit smaller, too.

                                                                For my part...

...I prefer having only a wee glimpse into the darkness. ;)

I'll be away again for a few weeks.

Look for new posts from me in mid-May.
