Silk-Screened Linen Apron (For Felting)- Part 1 of 2

Making a square of batik fabric into one wide, continuous loop...

...then marking cutting lines on its surface...

...and trimming the fabric into one long strip.

A small square of fabric makes yards and yards of bias tape!!

Pinning the pattern to my silk-screened linen...

                                                                ...and cutting it out.

Adding a layer of lining fabric to the apron front.

(No more damp, 'feltmaker's' tummy!) :)

After sewing the three main pieces together...

...and stitching bias tape along the raw edges...

...I'm ready to attach the straps to the bib section...

                                                          ...and complete the apron!

                                     Following this
video tutorial for making continuous bias tape...

...and using this wonderful free pattern...

...I used a one-off piece of silk-screened fabric in my stash...

...to make myself a new felting apron!

Next time: my youngest daughter models the finished project.

It looks like a lovely apron, and it will be lovely not to have a damp tummy, I'm sure!

Rachel-I usually wear a really hideous checked vinyl apron (think picnic table cloth!) that I sewed for myself some years ago. It's great for raw fleece work (which is filthy), but for everyday felting, I think this one will be much more comfortable and attractive! :)

ooooh, I might actually attempt this pattern. I need a better apron for sales at shows plus when I'm spinning, the fine fibers gets all over my clothes.

You are so brave -- I can't even imagine how you could cut into a gorgeous piece of silk-screened batik for bias binding. My fabric is piling up because I am not as brave as you are -- I "save" the gorgeous pieces and then they never get used!!

Kathy--You'll have to take a class with Marjolein Dallinga! She got me over my 'too good to use' anxiety in a hurry! :)
Deborah--Thank-you!! The fabric is actually pretty weird up close...but I love it, and I finally have an apron which doesn't 'choke' me!
