'Sour Apple Green' Apron- Part 2 of 2

Assembling the needed components...

...and stitching the bias tape to cover the apron's raw edges.

A 'facing' piece covers the area...

...where the straps attach to the body of the apron.

                                            A close-up of the sewn-on bias tape.

                                                   The finished apron (front)...

                                                               ...and back.

'Sour Apple Green' Apron- Part 1 of 2

Cutting out waterproof fabric...

                                            ...using my favorite apron pattern...

...and stitching the front and sides together.

Cutting patterned fabric on the bias...

...and reattaching the pieces in a new orientation.

Marking cutting lines on the fabric...

                                               ...pinning the edges together...

...and stitching the fabric pieces into a 'round'.

                                                Cutting along the marked lines...

...to form one long piece of continuous bias tape.

Next time: I stitch the tape to the raw fabric edges...

                                                  ...and finish the apron!

Make Do and Mend (Redecorating!)

When I moved into my house some years ago...

...I sewed curtains for a bathroom window...

...from fabric that matched the shower curtain.

Because I still love this fabric...

...I wanted to repair the portions of the curtain...

...that were damaged by the sun.

Since I had 'rescued' it once before...

                                           ...(using iron-on, fusible interfacing)...

...I first needed to remove these sad bits.

With extra fabric from the original project...

...I 'lined up' the print on the curtain...

...pinned and stitched the new fabric into place...

...and voila...you can hardly see the repair!

                                              ***********************************
While I was in a 'sewing mood'...

...I decided to make myself a new felting apron...

                                        ...from a water-resistant, cloth tablecloth...

...and some thrift shop bias tape (in two different colors).

The pattern is very easy to follow...

...and, as a bonus, it's free!

                                                        (You can find it here!)

                                              ***********************************
While I was in Paris this spring...

...I purchased some lovely linen yardage...

                                            ...for making durable dish towels.

(A couple of quick seams and they're all ready to use!)

                                  ***********************************************
When I re-painted an upstairs bedroom recently...

...I fashioned coordinating throw pillows and curtains...

...from an extra pair of sheets!

Next time: (Finally) I'm back to wool!

Paisley Apron- Part 2 of 2

Pinning the straps to the apron body...

...and adding a long rectangle for a front facing.

The front view...

                                                             ...then turning...

                                                          ...to the side view...

                                                ...(on my very amiable model).

                                                             The apron back.

(Notice how my dining room wallpaper nearly matches it?!?) :)

                                                        The finished apron...

...ready to be shipped off to my friend!

Paisley Apron- Part 1 of 2

Drawing cutting lines on the back side of my fabric...

...and stitching the raw edges together...

                                                      ...to form a cylinder.

Cutting along the lines with a pair of scissors...

...results in yards of continuous bias tape.

Laying out the pattern pieces, prior to cutting.

Pinning one side to the front...

                                                      ...and then the other...

...then stitching up the side seams.

                                                   Applying the bias tape...

...to the raw edges of the apron.

Using the same pattern as I did here...

...and using bias tape made from the apron fabric this time...

                                         ...(rather than from contrasting fabric)...

...I set out to make a present for a felting friend.

                                            Next time: the finished apron...

                                        ...and my 'matchy-matchy' wallpaper(!) :)
