After steaming, the felt softens and the colors lighten...
...with more silk showing through the wool.

This class was an absolute blast...
...and I believe that everyone went home quite content with her jacket.
My classmates were absolutely lovely, too...
...and new friendships blossomed as we joined forces to flip...
...or wrestle our large resists into place. :)
It's amazing how different each jacket looks from the next...
...and it certainly gives you a snapshot of just how creative one can be with felt!

Those are fantastic! Now will you be adding any buttons and such?
Well done to you all!
Andrea--Yes...I'll have to do a follow up post after I've added a button, and when the weather gets light enough for photos again!
Rachel--Thank-you!
yay!
How much it shrinks is mind boggling.
I so enjoyed hearing about your class, Heather! What fun :). I love the back view photo, the jacket looks fabulous!!!!
Great colours in your coat, still not sure hoe you incorporated the wedhe shape in the back, gives it wondeful drape though!
Kathryn-It IS, isn't it?!? :)
Lindy--Thanks! We had so much fun.
LucieBB-The wedge is a 'godet' (a triangular piece of material inserted in a dress, shirt, or glove to make it flared or for ornamentation), and it was the really tricky bit. I had to slice the silk up the middle of the back after it was on the resist, then baste a triangle of silk to it, and then protect it with plastic inside, and flip it over to cover each side with wool on the layout. Definitely a chore!! :)
OH ! Heather what an AWFUL lot of work !!!!!!!!
But in the end ..... great !
Wow Heather they all look Fabulous, so much work but it looks like you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. Well Done you :)
Els--Thanks so much!!
Karen--It was a great group and a a great week!
Wow, I can see it's a huge project from scratch to finish fitting your size. Must have used many yards of fabric. GREAT job !
Terriea--After fulling it from such a large size, I think it will wear very well, too...since it is very well-felted.
aaah! that is gorgeous!!!! My god the size of it!!!!! you felted like crazy didnt you! :)
Mariana--Thank you! Yes...it's not something I'd likely do alone in my studio! :)
Gosh, seeing it on you after some shrinkage had already happened shows just how HUMUNGOUS it was to begin with! Good job you had help to flip it, I can't even begin to imagine how you could do that alone.
Absolutely LOVE the autumnal colours, and the godette in the back looks really pretty I think.. Its lovely!
xx
Deborah--Thanks!! Yes...the flipping was a 'group effort' all around!
