"Biennial Boulder Blow-Out"- Mandalas-Part 2!

Some of the 'color trials'...

...as my friends choose pieces for their own mandalas.

(Surprisingly...

...often the oddest color combinations work well together!)

My 'partners in crime'...

...hard at work...

...outlining their pre-felt inserts with dark wool yarn...

                                                    ...for a stained-glass effect!

My own pre-felt mandala (after outlining).

                                                      Flipping it to side two...

                                                            ...wetting it out...

...and covering it with layers of natural black alpaca roving...

                                                        ...and orange wool.

Flipping it back to side one...

                                                     ...and felting the project.

                                                  The completed mandala.

Trimming the edge to create a tidy border.

                                                          Our finished work...

                                                                ...drying.

The back of the finished piece...

...and the front (with yarn 'wigglies').

A close-up of the surface texture.

I'll be taking a short blog break while I travel...

...so please watch for new posts (and a refreshed attitude!)...

...at the end of June. :)

"Biennial Boulder Blow-Out"- Mandalas- Part 1!

Each of us made a large piece of variegated pre-felt...

...using wool in our favorite colors...

                                                  ...plus yarn embellishments.

                                                 Our vibrant pre-felt pieces...

...drying in the cool Colorado air.

Pinning a paper pattern to each piece of pre-felt...

                                                       ...cutting around it...

...and removing the outlined pieces from the pre-felt sheets.

                                                     Mixing up the colors...

...and trying them on for 'size'.

                                                 Switching out the pre-felt bits...

                                                                    ...again...

                                                              ...and again...

                                                          ...until the results...

                                                     ...are pleasing to the eye.

                                               Next time: more process photos...

                                                   ...and my finished mandala.

My "Bird Beak" Purse From Fiona's Class- Part 2 of 2

                                                    Mid-way through felting...

...adding a few extra details to the 'bird's eye'...

...and a couple of felt loops at the top edge of the bag...

                                              ...for a strap attachment.

Here, the exquisite Fiona checks my progress.

The project, turned inside out, to check the interior pocket.

                                                 The very nearly finished bag.

Unfortunately, some of the decorative elements...

...were rather 'gobbled up' by the hairy red wool...

...but it's nothing a little judicious shaving wouldn't fix...

...(if I could ever manage to get around to it!) :)

The finished bag is just a fraction of the size of the original resist...

                                                    ...but it's still enormous! :)

There are two (nearly) full-sized interior sections...

...plus a well-defined and much smaller interior pocket.

The back of the finished purse...

...the front with 'Bird Beak' flap and short leather strap...

                                                       ...with the flap open...

...and the exterior pocket and flap interior showing.

Originally, I started out with this longer leather strap...

...but because the bag is already 18 X 15 inches in size...

...it functions better with the shorter one.
