Weaving With Wool Roving- Part 3 of 3

Weaving with variegated and white wool roving...

...on warp threads of wool yarn in various colors.

                                                     The project as it grows...

                                                             ...and grows...

...and the finished weaving (side one)...

                                                            ...and side two.

Because I fulled it in the washing machine...

                                               ...without adjusting it mid-wash...

...the finished piece is rather misshapen.

It shouldn't matter too much, though...

...since the three weavings will soon be stitched together...

...to form a portion of a new cover for my compost bin!

                                                   The different lines of color...

                                                         ...in this weaving...

...remind me of the striations in rock formations...

                                                  ...or the planet Jupiter...

...in photos taken from the Hubble telescope! :)

A 'compare and contrast' of the three weavings.

You can see how using the same technique and loom...

                                             ...but slightly different materials...

...results in quite drastically different looks!

Yes, rather like close-up photos of some minerals. They can be rather more colourful than we expect!

Rachel- I always liked those mineral exhibits in museums that have a push button to turn on a black light. Boring-looking blobs become brilliant and glowing!
