A "Woollove" Retrospective- Part 4 of 4

A Doctor Who journal cover...

                                                  ...and an acid-dyed scarf.

                                                              Bright beret...

                                                  ...and flower-laden purse.

 A silk hankie-embellished dress...

                                           ...and a silk-selvedge embellished bag.

                                                           A seasonal gift...

...and a purse made to coordinate with a pair of sandals.

                                          A hand-dyed silk-embellished purse...

                                                  ...and some baby play mats.

A bead- and embroidery-rich journal cover...

...and a purse made from the last of my striped silk organza.

                                                A wrap-and-tie storage envelope...

...and a bag made for carrying knitting needles and yarn.

                                                      Shocking pink accents...

...and an image from the Vatican museum.

                                                      'Mondrian' wine totes...

...and a bag made with an exterior 'safety' pocket.

                                                      A 'constellation' purse...

                                                  ...and a large, fabric-lined tote.

An enormous and dramatic compost bin cover...

                                                ...and an equally vibrant jacket.

                                                       A warm hat for winter...

...and a tote made from a riotous silk print.

Four purses made in a similar fashion...

                                           ...and a printed silk-embellished hat.

A slightly more subtle (!) jacket...

...and a highly textural piece of flat felt.

                                                           An intricate pillow...

...and a table runner made from a piece of vintage sari silk.

                                                         A 'rescued' project...

...and a table runner made in a friend's favorite colors.

                                                    An enormous 'reptile' bag...

                                          ...and two yarn-embellished mini-totes.

Next time: I go back to the projects at hand.

(Thanks for taking this 'walk down memory lane' with me!)

Everything from the flowing drapery of the dress to the really solid bags and compost bin covers.

Gotta love that compost bin cover. That could not have been easy to make. You sure have been one busy lady, with all that body of work, and I know that's probably less than half of it. LOL

Wow.... that's my word for the GREAT collection and wonderful works of different skills, textures, functional and decoration..... You have to make a book of all these collections. Will be a very very good reference for readers and felt fanatics !

Hi Heather, your work is truly inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing. Can I ask your advice. I have just inherited lots of silk material. Is it possible to use silk that is heavier than chiffon in felting. If so, are there any special tips you could impart to ensure success. Many thanks Helene

Thank-you, Helene! Yes, you can use thicker silks to nuno felt with, but you're right...there are techniques that will help. If it is only slightly thicker than chiffon, use room temp water (never hot) and expect to rub and roll for a long time (and try not to check obsessively, whether it's felting!) :) If it's something like silk dupioni, you can 'anchor' the fabric with stitching or cut holes in it and anchor it that way.

Thank you so much for your generosity Heather. I have just finished looking through your blog and it is really a wonderful felting reference source. I have just began my adventure in felting I am exploring 3D possibilities at the moment. Once I have finished lining one of my handbags I will upload them unto FB.
