New multicolored wool roving from Wollknoll.
Laying roving onto the resist...
...and here...
...adding a layer of cotton gauze.
More layers of wool roving.
Wetting and wrapping the roving around the resist.
Adding hand-dyed silk squares.
Even though I can hardly believe it...
...in a few short days' time, I will have been blogging for two whole years!
And as odd as this sounds, it's been a lot like having a new baby...
...who wasn't there...
...until she was...
...and then you can no longer imagine your life without her! :)
So, to thank all of you who read or follow or comment...
...or who have, over time, become true and dear friends to me...
...I will be having a give-away to mark the occasion!
It is for a bag that I have struggled over...
...(in truth, am struggling over, still)...
...but which I hope will turn out very pretty in the end.
I laid out variegated wool roving on the resist...
...then added more roving and a layer of cotton gauze for strength.
For a decorative touch, I added irregular squares of silk gauze...
...which I hand-dyed in the microwave using non-toxic icing dyes.
Next time: the real struggle commences!
P.S. If you comment on any of the three 2 Year Bag-i-versary posts...
...you will automatically be entered in the give-away drawing!

Yay for 2 years!! Blogging is so much fun, I love seeing what everyone is up too. A few weeks ago I took my first felting class and made a bag, it was so much fun. Now I know what felting looks like when I see it!
First of all....Congratultions on your bag-i-versery!! I can't imagine that I have to mis your blog. O, Heather, you struggle?? I wish I could help yo!! But I know you wil get your result just as you want it. Good luck. hugzz....peebee
Riet--I think you and Kelly are the ones who hate the multiple-part posts the most!! :)
Andria--Uh oh...you may have caught the felting bug!! Congratulations on your first bag!
Peebee--Thanks so much! (I wish you were close enough to come over for a 'consultation'!!) :)
congratulations! and I totally agree with Riet ;)))) Love, Mattie
Maybe it's also a bit of a blog-i-versary?
I like the multiple part posts and am always tempted to do the same. But I never remember to take photos in the middle of playing in the roving.
Mattie--Thanks so much!! XXO-
Elizabeth--Absolutely...a blog-i-versary for sure.
I'm glad that you don't feel TORTURED by the 3-parters like SOME people I could mention! Har.
Oh you do know I secretly do love the multiple posts! ;) You have aided in making me a much more patient person Heather! I love the roving you used for this bag. Are these silk squares ones that you resist dyed? Patiently waiting for the rest of the posts.
I love your blog, Heather, and I'm getting ready to tackle a raw-locks bag due to your inspiration!
Happy blogiversary.
I sometimes wonder what I used to fill my time with before I discovered blogging:-)
always love watching you create your bags, and your posts are so much more informative than most felty bloggers.
thanks for haring as always
martine
wow; that looks like something interesting there! congrats on the blogoversary!
Two years and still blogging well done. I'm interested to see how that bag will turn out.
I absolutely agree about the blog - what would you do without it now? :)
Congratulations - and of course, the bag will be great. I still get comments on my lovely bag!
Happy blogiversary, Heather!
This roving is astonishingly beautiful! and I'm sure the finished bag will be also! Can't wait to see it! (I quite like the suspenseful buildup!)
These raw fleece bags were fun, but a lot of work I think....
It's always great to struggle over something .... and then to succeed ;-) Keep on going!
oooh, that roving is delicious! I want to spin it. Happy Blog-iversary.
Kelly--How ironic, that an impatient person like me has helped to make someone else patient! No-the silk was dyed in the microwave using undiluted Wilton's icing dyes that I added with a toothpick! (You'll see...some of the color disappeared during felting, alas!)
Lindy---Ooooo...exciting news!
Martine, Abigail, Fiona--Thank you!
Denise--Thanks! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the bag!
Els and Andrea--Thanks!
Fiona D-I know...the roving IS lovely...but it has been the devil to felt for some reason!
Happy Blogiversary!!!! I'm having my own little celebratory party this morning, toasting you as I'm enjoying my morning coffee;-) Love your blog, love your creativity, love your heart.
Hope I'm not too late to enter in the give-a-way.
Big hugs,
Dawn
I guess it's a good thing I stopped in when I did. Oddly enough, the moment I saw that ball of variegated roving, I nearly drooled. But then I was thinking of how it might spin up, and you are felting it. LOL
I have no doubt the bag will be wonderful. Those colors are amazing! :)
Happy 2nd Anniversary too!
Dawn--What...no mimosas?!?! :)
Of course I'll put your name in the hat. I love you, too!! XXO-
Sandie--I know you were thinking about how this wool would spin up!
I hope you will like the finished bag...now that it's done, it's QUITE a bit different than it was at the beginning! XXO-
Oh boy, you know me pretty well. Yes, I sure was thinking how would that wool spin up. The colors are amazing. :)
Sandie--:)
this is a wonderful bag. I love the squares and the technique mix.
Thanks, Sara! Believe me, I had my doubts for a while! :)
