Icelandic Fleece Vase- Part 1

Vase-with what turned out to be a much too-large resist.

Glorious yellow-orange roving.

Laying out the Icelandic fleece.

Frankenstein-style stitching on the much too-large vase.

The Icelandic fleece that I bought in Rhinebeck was still waiting for my attention...

...and inspired by Riet's post, I decided to make a vessel with it.

I found a boring, unused vase in a basement cupboard...

...and drafted a resist pattern.

Unfortunately, I didn't take into consideration that there are two sides to a resist...

...and I ended up with one twice as large as it should have been! :(

I really loved the wild and hairy nature of my vase when it was finished...

...but as I struggled, unsuccessfully, to get it to felt to size, the reality of my predicament set in.

Next time, in Part 2...

...how I modified the vase so that I could live with it.

ooooh, it's gorgeous and if you add orange to anything, I'm excited.

I love how the locks are on the handle and I can't wait to see how you modify.

As I am a beginner felter, I'm learning that it's the modifications that really make the finished products since that fiber does have a mind of its own.

Happy Fiber Arts Friday! Stop by my blog today and link this in. You are an amazing Fiber Artist!

Oh, what a shame that it is to big. I made the same mistake a few weeks ago :-D, but then I have made a bag out of it. Is that a idea? Hugzz...Peebee

Andrea--I'm with you! I LOVE orange!! (I've never linked anything before, so I'll head to your blog in a bit and try.)

Peebee--Hahaha...nearly everything that I ruin becomes a bag, but this time, it actually stayed a vase!!

Riet--Hihihi Yours is perfect and beautiful...mine looks like a rooster's comb! Don't do it!! :)

this will not happen you again I am sure:)
I always draw the vase a little bit bigger (say 2 cm at both sides and a rounded bottom of 4 cm) when you make the bottom round you don't have to work away the corners:)

I really like the organic look to this, and of course ANYTHING with orange is going to look awesome! The black/ gray fleece on this- what type of fleece is it? I love the look of it. I cannot wait to see what you will do with this...patiently (yeah right!) waiting. :)

Kelly--Yes...I sure 'love me some orange'!

I realized yesterday that I had a headache from going 4 or 5 hours without a cup. Yeesh!!! Can you say 'caffeine addiction'??
