'After Mondrian' Wine Totes- Part 4 of 4

Fulling the tote...

                                                                 ...using a sushi mat.

                                                           The completed carrier in use.

                                               A close-up of its intensely-colored surface.

This tote is sized to hold two, 1.5 liter bottles of wine...

...or their more modest 750 ml counterparts. :)

                                                                    The finished tote...

                                                                 ...flattened for storage.

                                                        My 'twin' Mondrian wine totes.

Next time: the final wine tote...

                                                       ...made for holiday gift giving.

'After Mondrian' Wine Totes- Part 3 of 4

Laying out layers of wool batt with cotton dots...

...and wrapping them around the resist.

Adding pencil roving stripes and pre-felt shapes.

                                                                 Mid-way through felting.

The unadorned back of the tote.

                                                            Rolling (after removing the resist).

Checking my progress (and the firmness of the felt)...

...before cutting slits for the handles.

Using batts, rather than wool roving...

...made for a rather quicker layout this time!

                                                        Next time: the finished tote...

...and a photo comparison with its 'twin'! :)

'After Mondrian' Wine Totes- Part 2 of ?

Filling in the design with more pencil roving and pre-felt pieces...

...and mid-way through felting.

                                                                Cutting slits for handles.

                                                              The finished tote (back side).

(See how the black fibers migrated through the front of the bag...

                                                                      ...to the inside?!)

I like the unexpected little stripes on the tote handle!

The wine bottle carrier in use...

                                                                 ...and the flattened tote...

                                                                             A close-up!

Next time: a green version is begun! :)

'After Mondrian' Wine Totes- Part 1 of ?

Making pre-felts...

...in black...

...and the three primary colors.

The blue one is a little on the 'teal' side...

...but it's to coordinate (later) with dark aqua pencil roving.

Using a length of PVC pipe as a 'drying line'.

Preparing for my layout...

...by cutting out pre-felt squares and rectangles in different sizes.

Utilizing the foam resist from an earlier wine tote.

(Notice the tape? It's where I had to rip it at the bottom to remove it.)

Covering the resist with layers of white wool roving...

...then adding pre-felt shapes and pencil roving.

Next time: the finished tote.

More Christmas Totes- Part 3 ('Naughty' Book Bag- Part 2)

Mid-way through felting (front)...

...and back.

After cutting curved slits...

...for tote handles.

The finished book bag...

...in all of its colorful splendor!

It's roomy enough...

...even for a large format graphic novel...

...and I think it will 'turn heads'...

...wherever it goes! Grin.

More Christmas Totes- Part 2 ('Naughty' Book Bag- Part 1)

Writing text in black marker on one side of the foam...

...then flipping the resist over...

...and tracing the letters with pencil roving.

Adding a rough oval of silk fabric...

...and covering side one with a layer of variegated wool roving.

Side two is equally colorful...

...but solid colored layers of fiber make up the rest of the layout.

(These will form the interior of the bag.)

The project is wetted out...

...and felting is begun!

I have a good friend who's an avid reader...

...(and a good sport!)...

...and I wanted to make her a book tote with a bit of a 'bite'! :)

Next time: the finished tote...

...in all of its bawdy glory! Giggle.

Happy New Year to all of you dear readers...

...here's wishing you a 2014 full of art that is FELT!!!
