"Peacock Feather" Clutch- Part 1 of 2

Creating a resist from a sheet of foam floor underlayment...

                           ...and covering side one with two layers of merino roving.

                                                Adding a 'spike' to the flap...

                                         ...(to form one-half of the bag's closure).

                                              Flipping the project to side two...

                     ...wrapping the excess wool up and around the edge of the resist...

                      ...and adding two layers of wool to the bottom half of side two.

                                    (A small loop is added as 'partner' to the spike).

                               Carding merino wool and dyed tussah silk together...

                                               ...using a 'dollar store' cat brush...

                                          ...and adding bits of colorful pre-felt...

                
                                                    ...and dyed flax fibers...

                                                   ...to create the 'feather'.

                                                          Fulling the clutch.

                                I love making felt envelopes for various purposes...

                          ...and this time, I had in mind a very thin, soft felt clutch...

                                               ...made from pure white wool...

                                      ...with a single, colorful embellishment.

Pleated Silk Nuno Scarf- Part 2 of 2

Fulling the scarf...

                                                     ...and squaring it up.

                                       The stitched-in pleats remain quite visible...

                                       ...especially in the middle third of the scarf...

                                         ...where only brown wool was applied.

       
                                                          On the wool side...

                                       ...tussah silk circles provide color, texture...

                                                    ...and a bit of shimmer.

                                                The ends of the finished scarf...

                                             ...show muted gradations of color...

                                                    ...from the variegated wool.

                                            
                                             Because of the machine-pleating...

                                              ...the resulting texture is lovely...

                                        ...but it has a slightly 'crunchy' feel to it...

                                           ...(which I hope will soften with wear).

                                      In future, I would restrict this pleated silk... 

                                      ...to table runners or other non-wearables.

While I was in Vancouver...

                                    ...I bought some interesting pleated silk fabric...

                                            
                                       ...that I was anxious to fashion into a scarf.

                                            A single layer of variegated wool...  

                                              ...in oranges, pinks and golds...

                                   ...is placed on the surface of the silk at each end.

                                  For the middle third, a warm brown roving is used.

                                   Circles, made from lengths of dyed tussah silk...

                         ...are added to the wool side of the scarf as embellishments.

                                             As I roll the wetted out project...

...wool fibers are starting to travel through the silk...

                                           ...and the scarf is beginning to shrink. 

                                                When the moment is right...

                                                          ...fulling begins!

                                               Next time: the finished scarf.
