Bovine Sari Silk Hat- Part 4

The finished hat...

                                                                  ...drying.

The merino fibers have 'overtaken' the silk design...

...except in the areas where the silk was doubled...

...(at the edges of the resist).

                                                        Hand-stitching a hem.

I fiddled with the finished 'style' of this hat for awhile...

...landing on a version with a double fold...

                                                       ...and a smooth crown...

...that shows its muted print to advantage.

"Bovine Leopard" Scarf- Part 2 of 2

Mid-way through felting...

...I check to see whether the scarf is shrinking evenly...

                                            ...and adjust any aberrant bits.

                                                           The dark wool...

                                                      ...from the 'bovine' side...

...is beginning to show through the patterned silk...

                                                 ...as the wool fibers migrate.

                                                 The finished scarf (cow side)...

                                                          ...and leopard side.

A close-up of the finished texture.

Because it was made with only one thin layer of wool...

...the finished felt is quite light...

                                                                ...and soft.

                                                      This is an accessory...

...suitable for two very different moo ds! ;)

"Bovine Leopard" Scarf- Part 1 of 2

Laying out a long piece of patterned silk...

...in a red, black and white leopard print...

...and covering it with a single layer of merino roving...

...in a rather bovine pattern! :)

                                                    Wetting the project out.

Because the length of silk is longer than the table in my studio...

...I roll the wool-covered areas in bubble wrap...

...pulling the remaining silk onto the table in the process...

                                                 ...and complete the layout.

The entire scarf is wetted out with soapy water...

                                                       ...and rolling begins.

Next time: the finished 'double animal' scarf. Grin.
