"40th Birthday" Table Runner- Part 1 of 2

                                                  Placing pieces of hand-dyed silk...


                                                ...on the bubble-wrap surface... 



                                   ...and covering them with a layer of wool roving...



                         ...followed by a perpendicular layer of silk and merino roving.



                                                     Wetting the project out...



                                          ...and folding the edges in for neatness.
     

                                            Flipping the piece back to side one...


                           ...and adding circles of dyed tussah silk as embellishment.


                            A friend of mine is celebrating a rather 'significant' birthday today...

               ...and even though age 40 is just the beginning of things for many of us...

                                           ...she doesn't realize this just yet.

                                   To soothe the ache of this large, round number...

                            ...I created a table runner for her in her favorite colors.

          And as far as the "certainty, and creative freedom that comes with aging" goes?!?...

                               ...she'll figure all of that out for herself soon enough. :)                              

                                               Next time: the finished project.
